Late Thursday night, early Friday morning, Meek Mill dropped his highly anticipated fourth studio album, “Championships.” With features from several hip-hop heavy hitters, including #Drake, Cardi B, Jay-Z and more, as well as the musical stylings of Ella Mai, the 19-track project is the first full-length LP since the rapper’s release from prison.
While some fans started at the “Intro,” others began at the reconciliation track, “Going Bad,” featuring Drake. But, quite a few started at track five, titled, “What’s Free,” featuring Rick Ross and Jay-Z.
Over the Biggie Smalls’ “What’s Beef” beat, Meek kicked off the track with the chorus before Ross came in with the first verse, and shots at Tekashi69.
“Screaming ‘gang gang’ now you wanna rat/ Racketeering charges caught him on a tap,” Ross rapped. “Lookin’ for a bond lawyers wanna tax/Purple hair got them f*gg*ts on your back.”
As Meek continued with the second verse, he spoke on his criminal case, the system and name-dropped Michael Rubin and Robert Kraft. He even added a line in for Jay-Z, before Jay, himself, jumped on.
In fact, Hov hopped on and unloaded a two-minute freestyle, with mention of Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Prince, and of course, the Queen Beyonce. The Brooklyn-bred rapper/businessman also slipped in a bar for Drake.
“No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and ‘Ye/They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA, uh/I ain’t one of these house niggas you bought/My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours/My spou-(C’mon, man)”
