Roc Nation co-founder and CEO Jay Brown is the latest music figure to venture into America’s booming legal cannabis industry.

According to Variety, Brown has joined the Board of Directors of marijuana dispensary company, MedMen. Founded by Adam Bierman and Andrew Modlin, the Los Angeles-based company owns and operates 19 licensed facilities for medical and recreational use across California, Nevada, and New York.

Brown’s 20-plus year track record of cultivating and developing the careers of cultural figures including Rihanna and DJ Khaled and helming an executive role at labels such as Def Jam, will benefit the company’s lifestyle approach to selling marijuana, says Bierman.

“Marijuana today is less about smoking a joint, and much more about culture,” Bierman told Variety. “It is about healthier, safer choices for mind and body, and community. For more than two decades, Jay Brown has had his finger on the pulse of pop culture. We are honored to have him on our Board and look forward to working with him as MedMen continues on its mission to mainstream marijuana.”

Brown went on to lament Bierman’s sentiments by adding, “Over the years, I’ve met great talent and passionate people who helped shape our view of the world through music,” he said. “I see that same intensity in today’s emerging cannabis industry and MedMen is definitely at the head of the pack. I believe in their mission and I believe in their ability to execute.”

In addition to Brown, Snoop Dogg, Damian Marley, Wiz Khalifa, Melissa Etheridge, and Willie Nelson have all embarked on business endeavors promoting marijuana enterprises.
