Before Royce Reed reported Dwight Howard to authorities, she was also the subject of a child welfare check, TMZ reported.
According to TMZ, her son’s school contacted Georgia’s child welfare agency, DFACS, in February, when the boy was six. The school alleged that Reed used a belt on the boy’s neck and leg after he used a curse word at school. Reed reportedly told investigators that she spanked her son with a fabric belt. Authorities checked the child and found no obvious marks, and the case was closed, even though the school had accused her of using excessive force.
The report comes as Reed and Howard are in the middle of a custody dispute over their son. Reed has accused Howard of hitting the boy with a belt, and Howard has been investigated over a separate allegation, according to reports.
All of this remains allegation. Neither parent’s account has been decided by a court.
