Actress Ruby Rose is putting a deeply personal allegation into the public conversation, and the context of where she said it is raising eyebrows. The actress took to social media to accuse Katy Perry of sexual assault tied to an alleged incident at a nightclub, a claim she says she carried for nearly two decades.
Her statement came directly under a Complex post discussing Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set. Responding in the comments, Rose wrote, “Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne,” adding, “Who gives a s**t what she thinks.”
From there, Rose expanded on the allegation, describing the venue as the now-closed Spice Market nightclub and explaining how long it took her to speak publicly.
“Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer,’” she wrote.
She continued, “I’m now 40… It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly,” pointing to the lasting impact of trauma. Rose also noted that speaking on alleged woman-on-woman assault felt especially difficult.
In one of her most detailed claims, she alleged, “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomitted on her.”
Rose added that she is “not interested in filing a report,” but said she would welcome legal action if Perry chose to respond that way. As of now, Perry has not publicly addressed the allegations.
