On Monday, Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani was sued for defamation by Dominion Voting Systems, an election equipment maker that became the target of wild conspiracies driven by the former President and his allies.

Dominion said in a 107-page complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia that “as a result of the defamatory falsehoods peddled by Giuliani” in conjunction with other Trump allies and pro-Trump media outlets, “Dominion’s founder and employees have been harassed and received death threats, and Dominion has suffered unprecedented and irreparable harm.”

The lawsuit says, “Dominion brings this action to set the record straight, to vindicate the company’s rights under civil law, to recover compensatory and punitive damages, and to stand up for itself, its employees, and the electoral process.”

The company is accusing Giuliani of making misleading and defamatory claims about Dominion on his Twitter account, on his radio and podcast shows, in televised media interviews, and at the rally Trump held before his supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, which helped fuel Trump’s lie about a stolen election.

The lawsuit outlines proof of Giuliani’s false statements on how Dominion supposedly ‘fixed’ the election, which resulted in the defeat of Trump and the victory of Joe Biden. It contains screenshots from Giuliani’s Fox News and Fox Business television appearances and his tweets spreading conspiracy theories about the election.

According to the lawsuit, which was first published by The New York Times, Dominion demands more than $1.3 billion in damages.

The case comes after Dominion sued Sidney Powell, a lawyer who pushed Trump’s efforts to reverse the election outcome earlier this month for defamation. In that case, Dominion is also seeking more than $1.3 billion in damages, claiming it has invested millions in employee protection and damage management for its reputation and fears losing future business.
