According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a police officer who was placed on leave for missing the city of San Francisco’s vaccination deadline died after contracting COVID-19.
His late wife, Melissa Nyce said that her husband, officer Jack Nyce, 46, tested positive for Covid on Nov.2 and died that Saturday at Manteca hospital.
Melissa Nyce refused to say whether her husband was vaccinated.

However, according to
Lt. Tracy McCray, vice president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, Nyce was on a 30-day paid administrative leave because he had not received the vaccine mandated by the city.
The incident occurs at a time when vaccination mandates for government employees are facing opposition.
Last week, the San Francisco Police Department said that up to 70 sworn and civilian employees had been placed on leave for failing to fulfill a November 1 vaccine deadline.
According to a press statement, 97.5 % of agency personnel were properly vaccinated as of Nov. 2.
Officers who have not been vaccinated by Nov. 13 will be placed on unpaid administrative leave until a hearing is held by the San Francisco Police Commission.
Jack Nyce had worked for the department for 17 years. His spouse added, “He loved being a cop.”
