Sarah Silverman Responds To Social Media Digging Up Her Old Tweets

Comedian Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars after recently receiving backlash for almost ten-year-old homophobic tweets. As we all know, he is not the only comedian who has made jokes about homosexuals or homosexuality. So when the Twitter police discovered tweets from female comedians with homophobic language, social media wanted to compare the two outcomes.

Comedians Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, and Amy Schumer were all outed for using various forms of the word “fa**ot” in tweets dated back to 2010 and 2012. It doesn’t seem as though they individually endured much, if any, backlash from what they said as compared to Kevin Hart.

Sarah Silverman is the first to react to her tweet resurfacing, but her response was the least bit direct. She retweeted an article that already dealt with the issue…just like Kevin stated he previously addressed his issue, numerous times. The article includes some of Silverman’s own comments about her past offensive punchlines.

The article includes a quote from an interview Silverman did with #TheGuardian, “All I can do is learn from it, be changed forever by it, and do what I can to make it right going forward. Certainly, stuff that I did 10 or 15 years ago, I cringe at now,” she continued. She also stated that she now sees the jokes “very differently.”

She also discussed the matter with #Variety and was quoted saying, “I feel like unless you can admit to those things, you can’t be changed by them and you can’t even forgive yourself for them.”

What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained. WE know why one gets treated differently than the other. So what are WE going to do about it?
