Saweetie Claps Back at Social Media User's Claims of Her Supporting Colorism: "Nothing Witty or Clever About This"

Saweetie has established herself as a force in both music and business.

Since her breakout hit “Icy Grl” went viral in 2017, she has attracted widespread attention and a loyal fan base. While her talent is undeniable, public perception of her appearance has often complicated how she is judged as an artist.

In a recent interview on Hot 97’s Nessa On Air with Nessa Diab, Saweetie reflected on the pressures that come with being recognized for her looks.

“I saw it on TikTok. They were like they talk about pretty privilege but don’t talk about pretty punishment,” she explained. “There been so many times, I’ve been just counted out you know. And I know that it’s behind animosity. I know it’s because of an hidden agenda. But it makes me work harder.”

The idea of “pretty punishment” highlights the challenges of being celebrated for beauty while simultaneously facing doubt and skepticism. Especially where appearance can both open doors and invite scrutiny, particularly for women in the music industry.

Despite these challenges, Saweetie has continued to grow her career and expand her influence. She has successfully launched business ventures and collaborated with high-profile artists.

Instead of letting criticism slow her down, she uses it as motivation to prove her skills and strengthen her presence in a male-dominated industry.

“I’ve been counted out so many times,” Saweetie said. “But it only makes me work harder.”
