Regina Hall is heading back to the chaos that made her a comedy-horror icon. Paramount has officially set June 12th, 2026, as the release date for a brand-new “Scary Movie,” bringing Hall back as Brenda Meeks alongside Anna Faris reprising her role as Cindy Campbell, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The reboot will be directed by Michael Tiddes with a script penned by the franchise’s original creators, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Production kicks off in October, with Paramount releasing globally under its first-look deal with Miramax, the same studio behind the first three films.
Confirming their return, Hall and Faris shared a statement dripping with the series’ trademark humor: “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon, three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
The script and production are being handled by Rick Alvarez and the Wayans brothers, reuniting the core team that helped turn “Scary Movie” into a cultural phenomenon. The original debuted in July 2000 with Faris and Hall leading the cast. It opened to $42 million domestically, shattering records at the time for both R-rated horror openings and films directed by a Black filmmaker.
That success launched five films known for satirizing the biggest horror hits of the era while turning Hall’s Brenda into one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. The Wayans brothers went on to deliver other comedy staples like “White Chicks” (2004) and “Little Man” (2006), but this marks their first return to the “Scary Movie” universe in years.
The greenlight follows a recent wave of successful spoofs, including Paramount’s “The Naked Gun” revival, which has already grossed over $59 million worldwide.
