“Right now, my island of Jamaica is going through a really tough time,” Paul stated in the caption of his Instagram video calling for help. “Hurricane Melissa has caused serious damage, and many of our brothers and sisters are struggling, families displaced, homes destroyed, and communities in need of help.”
Through the Sean Paul Foundation, Paul has teamed with Food for the Poor Jamaica to deliver aid to those hit hardest. Additionally, he’s matching every dollar raised, to a cap of $50,000, to boost the impact.
“I’m asking from the heart if you can give to the country that’s given you so much for your entertainment and [is] just a peaceful place to come to and relax. We need help right now,” he added.
The hurricane made landfall this week as a Category 5 storm, inflicting extreme wind, flooding, and infrastructure collapse across Jamaica and neighboring islands. Reports confirm massive power outages island‑wide. As of Thursday, at least 30 deaths have been attributed to the storm in Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
