Residents were left without electricity and faced damaged infrastructure while trying to stay cool in the extreme Houston heat.
Despite these hardships, the city found a silver lining in the grey clouds. In true Houston fashion, ‘713 Day’ continued with its many festivities. This year’s events were particularly special, as the city managed to create joy and embrace its iconic history amidst the challenges. Although the celebrations were scaled down, outdoor events still took place in different parts of the city. Some local businesses turned the day into an act of service, helping residents affected by the storm with organized food and supply drives.
Looking ahead, Houston’s ‘713 Day’ 2024 will be remembered not only for its festivities but also for the sense of community and resilience shown during tough times. The clip reveals Taveras’ frustration as she fiercely protects her dress from being stepped on or covered by the security personnel. At one point, she shoves the guard in an effort to keep the image visible.
Upon closer inspection, the security guard appears to be the same woman who had an altercation with Kelly Rowland earlier this week. Rowland was seen telling off the guard on the red carpet, with a lip reader suggesting she chastised the guard for speaking to her rudely. Later, Rowland implied that race might have played a role in the incident.
Massiel Taveras’ encounter suggests she was equally unhappy with the security at Cannes. Festival organizers have yet to respond to the incident.

Video has surfaced showing Rowland on the red carpet of the star-studded event. As she posed for cameras on her way into the event, the former Destiny’s Child member had to check a security guard for seemingly being rude. While there is no audio of the moment, Rowland appears to tell the woman, “Don’t talk to me like that,” while sternly pointing her finger in the woman’s face. Seconds before words were exchanged, it appeared that the security guard was attempting to get Rowland to move along on the carpet hastily and even, at one point, accidentally stepped on her dress. Rowland’s assertiveness in handling the situation left fans coming to her defense, quick to shoot down the “Angry Black Woman” narrative and highlighting the importance of respect during such high-powered events.

Premiering in 2000, MTV Cribs offered viewers an exclusive VIP pass into the homes of their favorite celebs. From actors to musicians, athletes to TV personalities, each episode was packed with lavish cars, extravagant homes and massive-sized closets. The show was a means of escaping reality, allowing fans to live vicariously through some of Hollywood’s rich and famous.
Outside of the glitz and glam, some moments from the show will remain unforgettable, like Mariah Carey‘s iconic episode, for example. Carey stole the show by showcasing an outfit change with the help of her trusted assistant Blair, a luxurious jacuzzi bath coupled with champagne, a lingerie closet reveal, and an impromptu workout session on her VersaClimber in four-inch heels. Needless to say, Carey’s episode definitely gave us a taste of the good life.
Of course, we must revisit the episode where Destiny’s Child gave us a tour of their home. The show started with viewers catching a glimpse of Beyoncé’s chic bedroom filled with designer decor. We also got a chance to see Kelly Rowland’s walk-in closet that featured a ton of couture fashion. However, one thing that stuck out most was the absence of Michelle Williams’s living quarters. While her bandmates displayed their lavish lives, Michelle’s room was unseen. But nevertheless, viewers were still amazed at the lifestyle the iconic girl group showcased.
Switching the gears on their usual guests, Redman‘s episode on MTV Cribs will go down as one of the most legendary moments. Straying away from the typical lavish norms, Redman gave us a refreshingly down-to-earth tour of his home. Revealing a modest townhouse complete with peeling wallpaper and mismatched furniture, it was clear that this episode was totally different. Unlike other celebs, Redman chose not to show off his flashy amenities but entertained viewers with his genuine personality. Highlights from the episode included Redman’s makeshift studio that featured cardboard soundproofing and his messy bedroom that he referred to as the “Red Room.”
While we only highlighted a few episodes, the show managed to keep us entertained and wanting more. But the glory of MTV Cribs quickly hit a stumbling block after revelations surfaced that many of the homes featured on the show were, in fact, rented or staged for the cameras. Some fans felt betrayed by the illusion, which lead to the show’s credibility being tarnished. As a result, MTV Cribs faded into the background for a few years. But, trouble don’t last always! In 2021, the show reemerged with the rise of social media and a newfound desire for authenticity. Celebrities were able to bring us into their homes again but were encouraged to reveal their actual living spaces. The result was refreshing and gave new life to a classic series that will always be a part of our memories.

The singer has finally explained the hilarious debacle during a recent sit-down with Los Angeles food writer Josh Scherer for his “Mystical Kitchen’s Last Meal” YouTube series. The “Mea Culpa” actress revisited the Benny Boom-directed video, which has amassed over 1 billion views. Rowland reminisced about the video, where she was seen text-messaging collaborator Nelly using Microsoft Excel. According to Rowland, no one questioned the quirky move.
“Do you know how much flack I get from that?” Rowland laughed. “I’m so used to it now.”
Nelly also spoke on the clip in a 2016 interview on “The Project.” According to him, the Microsoft Excel text was a part of the technology of the Y2K, which is why no one saw a problem with it.
In the clip, Rowland typed out the message on the spreadsheet, though it didn’t go through. Now, Rowland jokes that she was sure the Excel message was simply a draft. Despite this blunder, fans didn’t hold it against Rowland. The track immediately became a hit single after its release in June 2002. It shot to number one on the Billboard 100, earning Nelly and Rowland a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 45th annual ceremony.
