The late iconic singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards.

It will be a posthumous award for the Tejano singer who died at 23 in 1995.

This comes after Selena’s career has been thrust in the spotlight again, thanks to Netflix’s ‘Selena: The Series,’ starring Christian Serratos. Of course, it was Jennifer Lopez who originated the role in the 1997 biopic ‘Selena.’

The Recording Academy announced the list of honorees, including Salt-N-Pepa, Benny Golson and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Lionel Hampton, Marilyn Horne, and Daniel Weiss.

Harvey Mason Jr., President, and CEO of the Recording Academy, said in a statement, “As we welcome the new class of Special Merit Award honorees, it gives us a chance to reward and recognize the influence they’ve had in the music community regardless of genre.

“As a music creator and music lover, I am grateful that we are able to look back at our influences and see the impact that they have made on our community. In a year where music has helped keep us together, I look forward to honoring this iconic group of music creators.”

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
