12-year-old activist Naomi Wadler has a new web series premiering on #EllenTube called ‘DiversiTea,’ in which she discusses social issues with various guest. In the first episode, Naomi sat down with tennis great Serena Williams and discussed gun control and how gun violence affects black women.

Williams said in a preview of the episode, “I was affected personally by gun violence, my sister, unfortunately, passed from that.” Williams’ 31-year-old, half-sister #YetundePrice was shot and killed while sitting in an SUV in Compton in 2003. She continued, “People are talking about it now because it’s happening more widespread. But it’s been affecting our community for years.”

Naomi asked Williams why she believes it’s important to talk about such difficult issues and Serena replied so that people are aware the problems exist and can start trying to solve them. “I think we need to get comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations. Situations are never really gonna get better if you always avoid it, you have to take it head-on,” she said.

#DiversiTea premieres today on EllenTube.com
