Shelby County DA Dismisses Numerous Cases Handled by Former Officers Charged in Tyre Nichols' Murder Case

Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that dozens of cases handled by the five former officers charged in Tyre Nichols‘ murder have been dropped.

Per the D.A. office,  at least 30 of the criminal cases involving former officers Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith, Desmond Mills, Demetrius Haley, and Emmit Martin were dismissed. They said, in total, about 100 cases were reviewed.

Each of the ex-cops were charged with second-degree murder in Nichols’ murder case. They were also charged with aggravated kidnapping causing bodily injury, aggravated kidnapping while possessing a weapon, official misconduct thru unauthorized exercise of official power, official misconduct thru failure to perform a duty imposed by law, official oppression, and aggravated assault – act in concert.
