Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Kicked Out Of Univ. Of Miami For Allegedly Spiking Drinks

A fraternity at the University of Miami has been shut down after it was accused of misogyny and spiking drinks, CBS News reports.

Raping women and brutalizing their corpses is what several male students were caught chanting about in a leaked video that was recorded on October 1. The men were part of a fraternity called Sigma Phi Epsilon, which has now been booted off the camp over the footage and allegations.

“The University received allegations the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter violated university policy and participated in behavior that is inconsistent with the values and expectations of the university community and their national fraternity. We have partnered with Sigma Phi Epsilon for 73 years, and we support their decision to close the chapter effective immediately,” said University of Miami Senior Vice President for Students Patricia, who mentioned that there are a “clear set of policies expectations to all of our Greek organizations that are designed to encourage a safe, healthy, and positive experience for UM students.”

None of the male students have been charged, CBS News reports.

On Friday, the fraternity’s chief communications officer, Heather Matthews, responded to the incident saying: “On Friday, the Sigma Phi Epsilon’s National Board of Directors unanimously decided to revoke the charter of the chapter at University of Miami. The National Headquarters received a video demonstrating SigEp members violating policy and engaged in misogynist actions that are not aligned with the values of this Fraternity.”
