Social media is not pleased with Timbaland’s recent comments about Britney Spears.
The producer recently conducted an interview with 9th Wonder that took place before a live audience at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. When an attendee began to pose a question about Justin Timberlake’s 2002 Timbaland-produced hit, “Cry Me A River,” the producer stopped him to make a somewhat cringy joke about the song currently being the talk of social media since the release of Spears’ new memoir, “The Woman In Me.”
“She going crazy, right? I wanted to call and say, ‘JT, you gotta put a muzzle on that girl,'” Timbaland said, which caused the audience to erupt in laughter.
In her new book, Spears recalled getting an abortion while pregnant by Timberlake and also how they both cheated during their young romance. Years later, Spears was placed in a strict conservatorship, which rendered her unable to control much of her life for 13 years. Therefore, Timbaland’s comments about “putting a muzzle” on Spears appeared a bit tone-deaf and didn’t sit well with her fans online.
Timbaland hasn’t responded to the backlash, but it’s likely only a matter of time before he does.
