Seven members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at the University of Wyoming have filed a lawsuit asking a judge to cancel the membership of 21-year-old Artemis Langford and award unspecified damages. The lawsuit claims that Langford, who is transgender, should not be allowed to live in their sorority house.
The members are concerned about preserving the house as a “female-only” safe space, and some have raised issues regarding shared bathrooms without locks.
Although Langford currently does not live in the house, they have been given permission to move in starting in September. The lawsuit argues that simply identifying as a woman and displaying what Langford believes to be feminine behavior does not make them an actual woman.
The members who filed the lawsuit allege that Langford has made them uncomfortable by showing visible signs of arousal in their presence. Some sorority members expressed feelings of unease and constant fear while Langford was around.
According to one member named Hannah, the second floor of their house is strictly off-limits to men, except during move-in and move-out periods. The sorority house is meant to be a safe space for the female members to relax and sleep. Another member named Jaylyn pointed out that all the bathrooms are shared without private changing areas or locks, which makes the living situation feel exposed and vulnerable.
Trans activist Caitlyn Jenner expressed strong criticism towards a transgender woman who recently joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter at the University of Wyoming. This has led three sorority members to take legal action against the sorority.
During an interview with America Reports host Sandra Smith, Jenner made derogatory comments about the transgender woman Artemis Langford. Jenner stated, “If you look at those pictures, what I have to say is, he is a perverted, sexually deviant male. I’m sorry, Artemis Langford, you are not a woman and you do not belong in women’s spaces.”
