Soulja Boy is not yelling “copycat” this time, but he is definitely pointing at the timeline.

During Hip-Hop Wired’s coverage of Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash XXX in Atlanta, Soulja Boy was asked about Drake’s three-album release and whether the move felt familiar. Drake shocked fans on May 15, 2026, when he dropped “Iceman,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour” on the same day, marking his first solo albums since 2023’s “For All the Dogs.”
Soulja did not press the accusation. Instead, he left room for Drake to answer that himself.
“To be honest, it could be a coincidence. You just gotta ask him. ‘Hey man, did Soulja inspire you?’”
Then he added the part that sounded a little more pointed.
“It’s crazy to see stuff that I did still being done to this day.”
Soulja Boy’s Internet-Era Receipts
Soulja’s reaction lands because he has been pushing the “I did it first” argument for years, and this one comes with history attached.
Back on October 30, 2009, Soulja Boy released three mixtapes in one day: “Paranormal Activity,” “Dat Piff”, and “Cortez.” Fans often call it a three-album drop, but those projects are documented as mixtapes. Still, the strategy was clear: flood the internet, feed the fans, and stay louder than everybody else.
That approach became part of Soulja’s larger legacy. Long before TikTok rollouts and streaming-era surprise drops, he was using YouTube, viral dances, direct fan engagement, and constant online promotion to build momentum. Pitchfork previously credited him as a major early figure in internet-driven music fame and digital self-promotion.
Drake’s Three Albums Made Chart History
Drake’s move was not just a stunt. Pitchfork reported that “Iceman,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour” helped him become the first artist to hold the top three spots on the Billboard 200 at the same time since the chart began publishing consistently in 1956.
So whether Drake studied Soulja’s playbook or simply made a massive streaming-era flex, Big Draco sees the bigger picture. The industry is still using moves he says he helped introduce.
And this time, he did not have to scream it.
