According to a source close to Brad Pitt, he’s “heartbroken” that his estranged wife, Angelina Jolie, has accused him of spousal abuse.
Recently, Jolie announced that she is ready to testify about the abuse in their upcoming trial over child custody, insiders close to the matter said.
The couple is already legally divorced but will battle it out over the six children they share, Page Six reported. The trial will be handle by a private judge.
Earlier this month, Jolie filed court documents stating that both Jolie and their children are willing to give testimony and “proof and authority in support” of her allegations against her ex-husband.
Court documents have been sealed in this case but were leaked to Blast.
“Brad is heartbroken that Angelina has gone that route. There’s a lot of emotion left after their marriage. He has taken responsibility for his actions and owned up to his past issues; he’s stopped drinking. The marriage was very passionate and toxic at times, and — like all couples — they had fights but also shared many good times together. He has talked about his drink and drug problems during the time they were together,” a source stated.
While the couple was still together, there was a widely-publicized incident on a private jet with the family, but Pitt was never charged.
“Brad and his camp have never attacked Angelina. But his camp feels this leak was calculated to sway opinion ahead of the conclusion of their trial,” the source said.
“Brad feels like he’s being more and more isolated from his children, and he’s devastated about it.”
The trial may end next month with the judge ruling on custody. Jolie has tried but been unsuccessful in removing Judge John W. Ouderkirk–who is the judge who married the two–from the case. The judge has denied having any personal bias or prejudice concerning either party or attorney in the matter.
Sources also told Page Six that court-appointed therapists interviewed the kids, and it’s believed reports that eldest son Maddox, 19, gave negative testimony against Pitt are untrue.
Pitt is fighting for equal 50-50 physical and legal custody of the children.
