The 1998 Spike Lee-directed movie, He Got Game, starring NBA Hall of Famer, Ray Allen, and Denzel Washington are in early discussions for a sequel, with New Orleans Pelicans rookie, Zion Williamson as the possible star.⁣⁣

Spike and Ray recently appeared on the Jumpman Encore show hosted by Sage Steel, where Spike revealed he and Ray have been talking about the sequel off and on for years.

“Denzel is not doing it,” he said, however, adding that LaLa Anthony will have a role in the movie.⁣

Spike then revealed that he and Ray were trying to arrange a meeting with Zion before the coronavirus pandemic to discuss the potential star role with the Pelicans rookie.⁣

”Before corona, we were trying to get a meet and greet. Ray and I were going to go to a home game in New Orleans. I’m still for it,” Spike says.

In 2019, Zion expressed interest in starring in the sequel. During a Q&A with Brady Langmann of Esquire, Zion said he ”definitely” wants to be in the sequel to the classic film.⁣

In the 1998 Spike Lee Joint, Jake Shuttlesworth, played by Denzel Washington, is the father of the top-ranked basketball prospect in the country, Jesus Shuttlesworth, played by Ray Allen. ⁣

Jake is in prison for killing his wife but is released for one week by the state’s governor to persuade his son to play basketball for the governor’s alma mater, in exchange for a reduced prison sentence. ⁣
