Stephen A Smith took it upon himself to criticize Zion Williamson’s weight after leading the New Orleans Pelicans to a win over the Houston Rockets last night. 27 points, three rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and a block with a few emphatic plays was an impressive all-around game for the former Duke Blue Devil.
After dominantly defeating the Rockets without co-star Brandon Ingram, Stephen A Smith didn’t care much about the way he played last night. He continued to mention his conditioning is what’s going to be the determining factor in the success of the Pelicans team.
“It’s not about his game, It’s about how many burgers he’s eating,” Smith said on ESPN’s morning show Get Up. “Whether he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald’s.”
An insensitive comment that is on brand for Smith’s strict requirement, he feels Zion Williamson should reflect.
Knowing Zion would not probably respond, the New Orleans Pelicans social media team took it upon themselves to call out Smith’s basketball ability and acumen, which Smith didn’t take too kindly to.
The Pelicans social media team posted the statistics that reflect Stephen A Smith’s one-game career at HBCU Winston Salem State University. Smith’s response was directed towards the overall success of the franchise as he showed love to people he has a relationship with on the team.
“LESS!!! Can’t score when you can’t play due to a devastating knee injury. That’s my fact. Now……what’s y’all excuse for never winning anything???”
“Can’t wait to see y’all in April. May and June? We won’t even go there! Good Luck! Tell my boys…Coach Green and CJ I’m always rooting for them.”
An unexpected beef that the Pelicans had every right to respond to. Taking the stand for one of their franchise players. Smith’s constant breading of Williamson’s weight as he has stayed mostly healthy this season and been playing well can be looked upon as insensitive.
