That's Baller: Steve Jobs Old and Worn Birkenstocks Sell For Over $218,000 at Auction

Julien's Auctions

Don’t be surprised if old and worn Birkenstocks are the new trend next spring after late billionaire Steve Jobs‘ Birkenstocks sold for over $218,000 at an auction.

Maybe the Birkenstocks will rub off some billionaire energy. Still, Jobs wore the Birkenstocks in the 1970s and 1980s during “many pivotal moments in Apple’s history,” according to the auction house, which is clearly why they sold for so much, $218,750 to be exact.

According to executive director Martin Nolan, who told NPR, the sandals were the highest auctioned and a new record at the footwear auction.

The sandals come from Mark Sheff’s collection, who actually managed Jobs’ estate during a prominent time in Apple’s history, the 1980s.

Other items from Jobs have been sold at the auction previously; for instance, the first Apple-1 computer prototype from the mid-1970s was sold for $677,196.

The winning bidder has not disclosed their name for the old and worn Birkenstocks, but it was sold to the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. The runner-up was a potential buyer from China.
