Being a sneakerhead comes with many ups and downs and can have you doing certain things to obtain dope shoes. Rapper Styles P recalls how collecting sneakers “ruined his life.”
The LOX rapper sat down for an interview with Full Size Run podcast, where he shared his past involvement in the sneaker culture. Styles P begins by speaking on maintaining his image and how sneakers greatly influenced his life. Styles then tells how his mother wasn’t up for paying $100 for tennis shoes, so he turned to sell drugs in order to buy the sneakers.
“Sneakers ruined my life. I sold crack to be able to get sneakers. To be honest with you. That’s [the reality for] alotta people in the ghetto,” Styles P said.
The NY rapper’s love for sneakers turned for the worse when it became a “horrible addiction.” Styles said at the time he was already a weedhead and needed to reprioritize his habits. It wasn’t until a few years ago where he made the decision, and it seems as though the weed came in first place. However, Styles never resold his sneakers but instead gave away thousands of pairs.
