Summer Walker has joined the growing wave of criticism against Spotify for launching a female rap exhibit that excluded Nicki Minaj.
Recently, rappers like Latto, Flo Milli, and Sexyy Red attended the opening of Spotify’s Gold Standard Exhibition in New York. The exhibit features women from the newer generation of hip-hop, depicted in classical paintings. Among those showcased are Cardi B, City Girls, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and Saweetie. While the exhibit focuses on female rappers who have been prominent in the past decade, many fans expressed disappointment that Nicki Minaj wasn’t honored. Walker also shared her frustration over Minaj’s absence.
“I don’t even listen to a lot of Nicki ’cause I’m an R&B lover, but where is the Queen? Or at least Lil Kim or Missy Elliott…this is mad disrespectful. This is why I make my music and go home. The industry is weird,” the “Unloyal” singer wrote in response to a post about the exhibit.
While some believe Spotify disrespected Minaj by excluding her, others argue that the exhibit correctly focused on artists in the same age group or experience level as those included.
