A Nashville District Attorney has released surveillance footage that shows a Metro Nashville police officer chasing and fatally shooting a black man in the back.

The footage, captured by a nearby school, shows Officer Andrew Delke chasing 25-year-old Daniel Hambrick down a sidewalk on the evening of July 26. Next, Delke stops and pulls out his firearm just before Hambrick is seen falling to the ground. While there is no audio attached to the video, according to NBC, officers say Delke fires “several” times.

According to the local Fraternal Order of Police, Hambrick was armed and Delke made an “absolutely necessary and reasonable” decision to shoot Hambrick.

Police have previously stated that Hambrick was armed during the chase, though it is not clear if the surveillance footage shows Hambrick brandishing a weapon.

The family of Hambrick is now calling for a proper investigation into their son’s death following the release of the surveillance footage.

“I just want justice for my son,” said Hambrick’s mother, Vickie Hambrick, through tears. “That’s all I’m asking. And for all the young black guys and young women, I want justice for them.”

According to the family’s attorney, Joy Kimbrough, Hambrick was not a threat to officers because he was fleeing. Kimbrough also stated that Hambrick was “cuffed and left, left there like a dog.”

Delke is currently on an administrative assignment.
