A Kentucky grand jury has indicted the men accused in the shooting death of Trinity Gay, the 15 year old daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay.
According to Lexington police, Chazerae, 38, was indicted on one count of wanton murder and four counts of wanton endangerment. Police said he played a role in creating “the environment that ultimately led to the death of Trinity Gay.” His bond was set at $507,500.
Lamonte, 20, was indicted on five counts of wanton endangerment, and D’Markeo, 19, was indicted on one count of wanton endangerment. A fourth man, 21 year old Dvonta, was charged with wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and a probation and parole violation.
Police said Trinity was with a group of friends outside a Cook Out restaurant around 4 a.m. on October 16 when gunfire broke out between two vehicles and she was hit in the neck. She was taken to a hospital, where she died. Witnesses told police she was a bystander. Police have not said whose bullet killed her.
Each man was first charged with one count of wanton endangerment. Police said additional counts against Chazerae and Lamonte were added after investigators identified more people in the parking lot that night who could have been hurt.
An indictment is an accusation, not a finding of guilt, and responses from the accused were not reported. Earlier that week, Tyson shared a birthday message for Trinity, who would have turned 16. Baller Alert continues to send love to the Gay family.
