Taraji P. Henson is opening up about her past domestic violence experience. In the latest episode of her Facebook series, Peace Of Mind With Taraji, Henson details the abuse that left her permanently scarred.

While sitting with her co-host, Tracie Jade, and guest star, Angela Simmons, the actress recalls when she decided to leave the abusive relationship.

“Sometimes as women what we do is we fall in love and we go, ‘You know what? I’ll fix it later. For me it was when blood was drawn, because it started with the bruises and grabbing, things like that. And then once the fist came…I’m missing a piece of my lip to this day..that’s when I knew I had to go.”

Taraji then explains how she was exposed to abuse early in life and made it a priority to never let her son, Marcell Johnson, experience the same thing.

“I grew up around it and at the time I had my son, and I was like, ‘I don’t want my son around this,’” she said.
Taraji has often been very vocal about speaking on the trauma she’s endured, which is why she launched the Facebook series.

“It’s not like I’m some celebrity that said I’m gonna do a talk show and I’m gonna ask people a bunch of questions, no. We are audience members ourselves,” Henson says.

The second season of the series is set to begin on October 25th with an array of celebrity guests such as Chloe Bailey and Megan Thee Stallion.
