A lip filler deal that looked too good to pass up has left a teacher with a painful lesson.
The Daily Mail reported that Amelia, a 24 year old teacher living in Bangkok, bought a discounted lip injection package from a local Groupon style site because she wanted a fuller look like the one Kylie Jenner is known for. She told the paper she researched the brand first and felt comfortable because the deal came from a site she trusted.
She had the injections in April 2015 and was happy at first. Within months, Amelia says her lips turned blue and lumpy. She told the Daily Mail the clinic tried to fix the lumps with another injection, but she says that made them worse. She described the result as “grotesque,” and said the lumps are sore to the touch.
Amelia says she did not tell anyone back home at first. She has now shared her story publicly and started raising money, about 1,500 pounds, to pay for corrective treatment at a specialist hospital. According to the Daily Mail, the clinic contacted her afterward and donated most of that amount.
Amelia also told the paper she cannot say for sure whether the clinic was reputable, since reviews on its Facebook page were written in the local language and she could not read them. Her story is a reminder to research any provider carefully before booking a cosmetic procedure.
