A teacher in Ohio was forced to resign after her alleged sex tape was sent to hundreds of students.
On Feb. 7, the teacher’s phone allegedly airdropped the explicit video to over 200 students with iPhones at Ginn Academy, an all-boys public school in East Cleveland.
She told police she had no idea how the video was released, claiming she heard rumors of a circulating sex tape featuring her and her boyfriend.
Fox 8 News reported that there were also four to five other videos sent on Feb. 7, but only one was believed to be sexually explicit.
“If somebody were to have access to an unattended phone, its fairly easy to capture someone’s passcode,” Alex Hamerstone of TrustedSec Cyber Security told WKYC. “If someone has bad intentions, the first thing they’ll do when they get access to your phone looks through your pictures, look to see if you have a private folder and see what’s in there, or look at text messages and try to find something inappropriate.”
It has since been confirmed that the Cleveland Metropolitan School District placed the teacher on paid leave while Cleveland Police investigated.
“Our collective bargaining agreement with the district provides for a process that protects our members, the district, and students when accusations are made involving members,” the Cleveland Teachers Union said in a statement. “We will work with our members and the district through this process.”
No disciplinary actions have been taken against the teacher since she has not been charged with a crime.
