Every locker room, office and friend group has one: the person who just has to tell a woman what her man is doing.
Rumors about athletes cheating on the road are nothing new, and every so often one of them gets passed from player to wife to girlfriend until a relationship falls apart. Sometimes it even gets blamed for a team falling apart. Which raises the question: if you hear something about a woman’s man and you aren’t close to her, should you say anything?
In my opinion, unless she is a close relative or a very close friend, you should keep it to yourself. Be honest about why you want to tell her. Most of the time it isn’t about doing the right thing. It’s about wanting to be involved in someone else’s business, maybe to take your mind off your own drama. You aren’t emotionally invested, you aren’t trying to spare her feelings, and you probably aren’t even 100% sure the rumor is true.
There are people who genuinely want to help, and if someone is being mistreated, speaking up can matter. But if the two of you aren’t close, and it doesn’t involve you, let that man get caught in his own lies. He usually will.
And remember, the same people passing along rumors about other women’s men usually have plenty going on at home that they’d rather nobody talk about.
