A Nashville mother and her adult son have been charged with criminal homicide after the death of a 14 year old boy with autism, according to police.

Police say Rebecca, 52, and her 33 year old son David initially told authorities that the boy, Sayeed, hit his head in a fall in the shower on October 22. They reportedly said David helped Sayeed dry off and get into bed, and that they checked on him several times before going out to a bar. They also said they went shopping for cleaning products the next day and found Sayeed unresponsive while cleaning the home. Rebecca called 911 at 11:50 a.m.

Police say Rebecca later changed her account. In a police statement, authorities said she admitted to seeing David punch and kick Sayeed in the head, and to telling David to stop before walking away without making sure he did. The statement says David admitted to an altercation with his stepbrother but denied causing serious injury. Detectives believe the cleaning of the home was an attempt to destroy evidence.

Both Rebecca and David are charged with criminal homicide, aggravated child abuse and evidence tampering. They are being held in the Davidson County jail without bond.

The charges are allegations, and both have the right to defend themselves in court.
