A Tennessee man was arrested on more than a dozen charges after admitting to firing gunshots and assaulting officers.

According to reports, multiple witnesses observed 26-year-old Juan Jose Vasquez, also known as Craig Jose Miller, open fire near the corner of Commerce Street and Rep. John Lewis Way North early Monday morning.

The Nashville Police Department arrived at the scene and found Miller and a friend at the intersection. Initially, Miller denied firing shots, but he later confessed to celebrating his divorce and newfound freedom by firing eight shots.

According to reports, after speaking to witnesses police collected eight bullet shells at the scene.

During his arrest, police shutdown the intersection briefly because they thought Miller’s backpack might have bomb-making materials, which they eventually found it to be safe.

The officers reported that the search of the backpack revealed stolen items suspected to be connected to recent car break-ins at a nearby parking garage.

These items included the gun Miller allegedly used to fire shots on Commerce Street. Additionally, Miller was wearing a parking garage pass around his neck, similar to a necklace, from where the car thefts occurred, as stated in the affidavit.

According to police, he was very aggressive during his arrest. He kicked the patrol car doors and kicked an officer in the stomach while they were trying to hold him down. At one point, he threatened to kill all of the officers.

Miller is facing several charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, theft of property, drug possession, and assaulting officers.
