Another American tourist has fallen victim to the fatal mysteries of a Dominican Republic Resort, becoming the 10th American to have died during or after their vacation in D.R.

According to CNN, Vittorio Caruso, 56, of Long Island, New York, traveled to the Caribbean Island to celebrate his retirement after he sold a Glen Clove pizza shop he owned for 12 years. However, sometime during the trip, Caruso’s sister-in-law said the family received a phone call saying the man had fallen ill.

Shortly after, a second phone call came in to report his untimely death, due to respiratory distress and possibly a heart attack.

According to The Dominican Republic National Police, Caruso had been receiving treatment since June 11 and died six days later.

Although the details remain unclear, the series of mysterious deaths have sparked a cause for concern for American tourists. However, Dominican officials have maintained that the deaths are isolated events, according to CNN.

In the meantime, the FBI is still helping officials with toxicology tests in at least three recent deaths. In addition, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana has moved to remove liquor dispensers from the minibars after two people died at its property. However, the resort said the decision was not made as a result of the fatal incidents. Other incidents have occurred at the Terra Linda resort in Sosua, the Excellence Resort in Punta Cana, the Grand Bahia Principe in La Romana and the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana.
