Texas Grocery Store Loses Power

The weather in Texas is nothing like the state has ever seen before.

The devastating winter storm and “unprepared infrastructure” caused widespread power outages, and yet, one business affected has since made headlines.

After H-E-B, a grocery store in Lender, Texas, had a power outage on Tuesday, management made the executive decision to let those in the store leave with their food, free of charge.

The random act of kindness has since gone viral.

Tim Hennessy was in the store, standing behind at least 20 people when the power went out. There was a “collective groan,” he recalled.

According to Yahoo News, it was not until Hennessy reached the cashier and she waved him through while telling him to get home safely when he realized what was going on.

“Like, wow, they’re just letting us walk out the door,” Hennessy said. He couldn’t believe it.

We could not believe the generosity of H.E.B. and the kindness of that wonderful gesture,” he wrote on Facebook. “They could just as easily asked us all to leave the store as soon as the power went out and asked us to just leave the groceries in the carts.”

“This is the America that I know. Despite all the negative we hear/see being reported daily in the news. America and most Americans are still kind, thoughtful, generous, and caring.”
