A Texas man is wanted by authorities after he allegedly finalized a divorce without his wife ever knowing about it. Officials in Harris County say Paul, 51, is wanted for aggravated perjury and that a no bond warrant has been issued for his arrest.
According to authorities, Paul’s wife told investigators in May that he had filed for divorce and completed the entire process without her knowledge or consent, and that the court had already held its hearings and issued a final divorce decree. Investigators allege the paperwork was forged.
Constable Mark Herman spoke with the New York Post about the case and said Paul’s wife was very surprised. He explained that the problem was simple: the husband left his wife out of the process, which is a violation of Texas law. Herman said she began finding signs that Paul had been spending money on jewelry, so she confronted him, and that is when he told her they were already divorced. The couple was reportedly married for only a couple of years.
Officials confirmed the divorce decree has since been vacated because it was allegedly filed fraudulently, which means the two are still legally married.
These are allegations from authorities, and the reports available at the time did not include a response from Paul.
