Paul, a Houston man accused of filing forged divorce paperwork, turned himself in on Monday morning, according to KPRC2. His court appearance afterward in Harris County drew attention because he arrived with his attorney and his new wife.
Paul denied the allegation when speaking with a KPRC2 reporter. “I’m not guilty and I want everybody in Houston to know, that knows me, I wouldn’t do this,” he said. He added that he trusts the court to review the evidence on his side.
The accusation comes from his wife, Edna. According to statements she gave Harris County Precinct 4, Paul filed for divorce without her knowledge or consent. She told authorities she believes her signature was forged on the documents and that the paperwork listed an address and phone number that were not hers, which is why the court never notified her.
Edna also alleged that the divorce decree listed no assets, leaving her with debt, including some she says belonged to Paul. She told KPRC2 she now wants a divorce and would sign papers once they are presented to her.
According to KPRC2, the court previously set aside the final divorce judgment because of the questioned documents, which would mean the couple was still legally married at the time of this report. Paul disagreed, saying he believes he was legally divorced and therefore free to remarry. He has not been convicted of anything, and the case is still moving through the courts.
