The North Pole is more than a magical place from children’s imaginations. As one of the world’s most inaccessible destinations, the travelers brave enough to make this journey have always had to bring tents and their own equipment to stay warm and safe in the Arctic. Janne Honkanen, founder of the travel company Luxury Action, wants to change that. Honkanen says, “I wanted to create a more comfortable way to experience the North Pole as it is, by bringing cozy facilities to extreme conditions.”

For $100,000, you can enjoy a two night stay in a heated igloo equipped with an en suite toilet, Arctic wilderness guide, chef and security team. The ideal traveler isn’t one whose necessarily looking for luxurious accommodations, but one who has the “spirit of an explorer or scientist.” According to Honkanen, his pop-up hotel poses no threat to the Arctic environment and is a “purely sustainable experience.”  He wants visitors to see firsthand the effects of the climate crisis, and its impact on the arctic.

Travelers spend two nights in Svalbard, a frontier town between mainland Norway, before taking a helicopter to a North Pole ice camp. From there, they are transferred to a glacier where the igloo hotel resides. Aside from being in one of the most remote locations of the world, visitors are sure to see the breathtaking Northern Lights in what is sure to be an excursion of a lifetime.
