The 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Day Has Given Us Memorable Moments That Will Go Down In History

Paris 2024 Olympic Games - Opening Ceremony

The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off on Friday, July 26th and there were plenty of memorable moments from the opening ceremony.

Athletes and celebrities were present to witness the exciting event.  The Games returned to Paris for the first time since 1924, marking an entire century since the French capital hosted the competitions.  This Olympics ushered in a new breakdancing category, which saw world-renowned dancers showcase their skills.  With fans tuning in to see their favorite athletes show off their moves, several memorable moments were seen during the opening day broadcast.  One of the most exciting included Lebron James and Coco Gauff carrying the American flag on the Team USA boat.

The floating parade also included thousands of other athletes from over 200 countries.

After days of speculation that she would be opening the ceremony, pop star Lady Gaga graced the stage.  The “Bad Romance” vocalist penned a touching message thanking the Olympics for asking her to open the show.

Another welcome surprise was the iconic Celine Dion making her performance return.  She sang “Hymne à l’amour” after the cauldron was lit.  Dion was another act that was teased for days ahead of the Games.  The singer has been open about her battle with the debilitating Stiff-Person Syndrome, which hindered her career.  However, in recent months, Dion has pledged that she would sing once again, and the Olympics proved to be the perfect moment for a musical resurgence.

The Paris 2024 Olympics will conclude on August 11th.  Therefore, there will likely be many more athletic and pop culture that will go down in history.
