The Democratic National Convention kicked off on Monday night, and the event was filled with inspiring moments and motivation.
The first night of the week-long Chicago rally drew thousands, with several guests gracing the stage. “Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn hosted night one, welcoming speakers including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Hillary Clinton. VP nominee Tim Walz was in the crowd alongside his wife, Gwen and Kamala Harris’ husband, Douglas Emhoff. Walz is expected to officially accept his nomination for vice president on Thursday, with Harris, who will receive the presidential nomination on the main stage. However, Harris left her supporters stunned when she briefly addressed the crowd. Her presence garnered a standing ovation, partially due to her wearing a tan suit, which was the same color as the one that sparked outrage during Barack Obama’s term.
Harris is expected to speak more on Thursday, though she still used the moment to praise President Joe Biden for his service.
“Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation, and for all you will continue to do. We are forever grateful to you,” Harris proudly stated.
Before and after Harris’ moment, several others stood out, including the presence of Rep. Jasmine Crockett and President Biden himself, making the night all the more special.
