Our favorite sponge’s best friend is getting their show! Nickelodeon has officially given the green light to Spongebob Squarepants spinoff The Patrick Star Show.
If you were ever curious about how Patrick grew up to be who he is, then this new series is for you. According to Deadline, the show will follow a younger Patrick living at home with his family. It kind-of adopts the whole “show within a show” concept introduced with iCarly since Patrick will be hosting “his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom.”
Viewers will meet Patrick’s sister, Squidina, who works behind the scenes of his show, as well as his parents, who frequently indulge in his antics.
Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “This second original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”
The series was ordered for 13 episodes, with Patrick being voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. Some other cast members include Cree Summer (A Different World, Inspector Gadget) as Bunny Star (Patrick’s mom); om Wilson (SpongeBob SquarePants, Back to the Future) as Cecil Star (Patrick’s Dad); and Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Squidina.
The same creative team has been brought over from Spongebob Squarepants, and Marc Ceccarelli, Vincent Waller, and Jennie Monica are co-executive producers of the series.
