Imani Showalter spent a lot of last night’s Basketball Wives LA judging Draya, especially for her past as a dancer. But Imani has a story of her own.
It was August 2005. Family, friends and teammates of then Spurs guard Stephen Jackson had all come to Houston for his wedding to Imani. The wedding never happened. According to reports at the time, just hours before the ceremony, Jackson presented Imani with a prenuptial agreement, and when she wouldn’t sign it, the wedding was called off. Some reports say she had been putting off signing it for a while.
Being handed a prenup on your wedding day is harsh, no question. But if you love him and you’re not marrying him for the money, why not sign? That’s the question people kept asking, and it’s why some viewers rolled their eyes when Imani came at Draya for how she got her money.
Imani and Stephen share a daughter. Everybody has a past, and that’s exactly the point. Imani wants to be the conscience of the group, but she might want to go easier on the judgment.
