Comedy legends Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are bringing back their iconic horror-comedy franchise, Scary Movie. The reboot is slated to hit theaters on June 12, 2026, marking the brothers’ first time reuniting for the franchise in nearly two decades.

Originally released in 2000, Scary Movie became one of the most successful R-rated horror comedies of all time, earning $42.5 million in its opening weekend. The first two films were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, while Marlon and Shawn Wayans co-wrote and starred in the series. The reboot, which will be the sixth film in the franchise, will be produced by Miramax, with Paramount Pictures distributing the movie globally.

Marlon Wayans shared the release date announcement on Instagram with a simple message: “Mark your calendars…”

The reboot follows a long break for the Wayans family from the franchise. In a September podcast interview on Club Shay Shay, Marlon reflected on the challenges they faced after their involvement with the series ended. He described their initial deal with Miramax as less than ideal and shared how the franchise later moved in a different creative direction. For Scary Movie 3, the Zucker brothers were brought in as directors based on ideas from the Wayans family, but the brothers had no involvement in the fourth or fifth films.

“You can’t do Wayans shit without the Wayans,” Marlon said in the interview. “What we do is special. It’s not something you can easily replace.”
