Just days after legendary film director, John Singleton, passed away due to complications of a stroke, FX chairman, John Landgraf, has announced the return of one of Singleton’s last projects, “Snowfall.”

According to Deadline, the series, which is set in the 1980s during the crack epidemic in Los Angeles, remained in production after Singleton’s initial hospitalization last month and continued filming earlier this week upon learning its co-creator, director and executive producer had been taken off life support.

“Everybody is sad, but everybody is also moving forward because that’s what John would’ve wanted,” ‘Snowfall’ executive producer Trevor Engleson, who was also Singleton’s manager, said of the devastating news. “It felt like the actors were hearing what John would’ve said, ‘Use that real-life emotion in your performance’” he added, as he revealed the crew filmed a sad, dramatic scene that day.

Though Singleton, who was reportedly hands-on for the show, directed every ‘Snowfall’ season finale, prior to his untimely death, he offered the opportunity to Sunu Gonera so that he could work on his longtime passion project, which was an Emmett Til film starring Taraji P. Henson, produced by Steven Spielberg. However, when the film fell through to work more on the budget, Singleton allowed Gonera to keep the position, and now, the show remains on track for its summer premiere.

According to FX, the highly anticipated third season will premiere on July 10 at 10 pm.
