Donald Trump recently shared his reaction to the news of Tiger Woods’ car accident in Florida, expressing deep personal sympathy for the golf legend.
Speaking to the media in Miami, Trump described Woods as an “amazing person” and an “amazing man” while acknowledging the difficult situation. The two have shared a friendship for years, and Trump made it clear he was standing by his “very close friend.”
“I feel so badly,” Trump told reporters upon learning of the incident. “He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know.” At the time he made these initial comments, the president noted he was only aware of the crash itself and was hesitant to dive into specifics, adding, “But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”
The accident occurred on Friday afternoon, March 27, near South Beach Road on Jupiter Island. According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the 50-year-old golfer was involved in a rollover collision around 2 p.m. while attempting to pass a slower vehicle. Woods‘ SUV clipped a trailer, causing the vehicle to flip onto the driver’s side and slide across the roadway. Fortunately, Woods was uninjured and was able to exit the vehicle through the passenger side.
Following the crash, Woods was arrested and charged with DUI involving property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Sheriff Budensiek stated that while Woods appeared “lethargic” and showed signs of impairment, a breathalyzer test returned negative for alcohol. Authorities suspect the impairment may have been related to medication or another substance, especially given Woods’ history of back and Achilles surgeries.
