After the release of The Little Mermaid teaser, hundreds of reaction videos and TikToks have swarmed social media. One TikTok, in particular, has many enraged as an Indonesian college student dressed in blackface pretending to be a black girl who sees herself through The Little Mermaid character.

“Mommy, she looks like me. She’s so pretty, mommy,” said Jossi Marcheli Risaputra as he put on a red wig.

“I have no words,” “What was he thinking…” and “It’s gone now, thank god💀 ppl are just so disrespectful it’s unbelievable” were just a few comments left by TikTok users under the viral video.

Despite the negative backlash and comments, Risaputra took to TikTok to state, “Just woke up and my video still up. I will stick to TikTok community guidelines. Play by the rule book. I’m not gonna remove the video myself,” said Risaputra.

All his social media outlets have ceased, including his TikTok. Those enraged by his post are referring to themselves as Twitter detectives after finding more information on Risaputra, including the speculation about his family and his education.

After reaching out to his sister, university, and law school, there was no response.

Blackface was created in the 18oos by white actors who performed with paint on their faces to mimic enslaved Africans. They would usually be portrayed as lazy, ignorant, and hypersexual characters with hopes of exaggerating what were thought to be characteristics of African Americans.

Risaputra has yet to make a statement or speak out regarding his video viral video.
