Tito Jackson’s Final Interview Before His Death Featured In New Documentary About Jackson Family Secrets

Tito Jackson’s voice will be heard one last time in a new documentary about the Jackson 5, featuring his final interview before his death in September 2024.

The emotional addition to the upcoming film gives fans an opportunity to hear directly from the late musician as his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon Jackson revisit their family’s rise to fame, childhood struggles, and the complicated relationships behind one of the most legendary groups in music history.

The untitled documentary has been three years in the making and features exclusive interviews with the four Jackson brothers, along with rare family footage and never-before-seen archival material.

The project puts the spotlight on the men who helped build the Jackson family’s musical empire, shifting the conversation beyond Michael Jackson’s global superstardom to the brothers who were there from the very beginning.

For longtime fans of the Jackson 5, Tito’s final interview carries particular weight. The legendary guitarist died on September 15, 2024, at age 70, leaving behind a musical legacy that helped shape generations of R&B, soul, and pop artists.

As the Associated Press reported, Tito was a founding member of the Jackson 5 and continued performing throughout his life. His sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, who formed the R&B group 3T, announced his death.

Now, two years later, audiences will have another chance to hear him reflect on the family whose music became part of the soundtrack of Black culture.

While producers have not revealed exactly what Tito discussed in his final interview, the documentary will explore the brothers’ childhood experiences, their father’s demanding management style, the pressures of fame, and the personal challenges that followed their success.

The Jackson family’s story began in Gary, Indiana, where five young brothers developed the sound and stage presence that would eventually take them around the world.

According to the Motown Museum, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael Jackson became a groundbreaking musical act after signing with Motown Records. Their first four singles, “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There,” all reached No. 1.

Their success helped establish a new generation of young Black entertainers as global stars, with the Jackson 5 becoming a cultural phenomenon during an era when Motown was expanding the reach of Black music.

However, the polished performances, matching outfits, and infectious records only told part of the story.

According to the documentary’s official production announcement, the brothers will revisit their experiences growing up under Joe Jackson, whose strict approach to managing his children became a defining part of the family’s history.

The film will examine how the brothers remember those early years differently, including “the pressure, the competition, the laughter between takes” that shaped their lives before they became household names.

Their mother, Katherine Jackson, will also be an important part of the documentary as the brothers reflect on her influence within the family.

That personal perspective makes the project especially significant. While audiences know the Jackson family’s chart successes and public milestones, the film will explore what those experiences meant to each brother individually.

The Tito Jackson final interview also represents an opportunity to preserve the memories of a musician whose contributions were sometimes overshadowed by the enormous fame surrounding his younger brother Michael.

Tito was more than a background figure in the Jackson 5. His role as a guitarist and performer helped establish the foundation of the family group, and he remained involved in music long after their original Motown success.

The documentary will also revisit the family’s changing relationships as their careers evolved, including the challenges that emerged when Michael became a solo superstar.

Workerbee Group CEO Rick Murray said the project intends to give the brothers ownership of their story.

“This film tells the story of the four remaining members of the original band from their perspective, offering an unprecedented insight into their rise from humble beginnings to global superstardom and their lives through today,” Murray said.

The documentary is directed by Benjamin Hirsch, who previously worked on Janet Jackson’s documentary. His involvement brings another connection to the family’s history, with this project focusing specifically on the brothers’ experiences.

“From listening to their untold and amazing stories, delving into their rare and often unseen archival footage and rediscovering their incredible back catalog of hits, this film has been a real treat to put together,” Hirsch said.

The filmmakers have also incorporated footage of the surviving brothers in the present day, documenting how they continue to honor the family’s musical legacy while reflecting on their personal journeys.

The timing comes as interest in Michael Jackson and the family’s contributions to music remains strong.

Earlier this year, the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, became the first biographical film to surpass $1 billion at the global box office.

According to TheWrap, the film reached the historic milestone in July 2026, demonstrating the continued worldwide interest in the entertainer’s life and music.

But while the blockbuster centered on Michael’s career, this new documentary offers a different perspective by focusing on the brothers who experienced the family’s earliest successes alongside him.

The Jackson 5 documentary is being produced by Workerbee and Paper Route Studios, with Mediawan handling international distribution. The project is being presented to international buyers at MIPCOM and will be available as either a 90-minute documentary film or a three-part series.

An official title, streaming platform, and premiere date have not been announced.

For the Jackson family, the documentary represents another chapter in preserving a musical legacy that stretches across generations. For Tito, whose death came before the project could reach audiences, it carries an even deeper meaning.

His final interview gives fans a chance to hear his memories in his own words, alongside the brothers who shared the rehearsals, stages, sacrifices, and success that made the Jackson 5 a permanent part of music history.
