TLC is launching a reality series about “mixed-weight” couples.

“Hot & Heavy” is TLC’s new limited series that follows the lives of plus-sized women and their love interests.

According to a press release, the couples include Joy and Chris who have been going strong for three years and are ready to take their relationship to the next level, but family and friends have serious concerns that Joy won’t be able to keep up with Chris’s adventurous lifestyle due to her weight. There’s Kristin and Rusty who have been married for two years and want a child more than anything, but when Kristin realizes she might need to get gastric bypass surgery in order to have a baby, disagreements arise. Lastly, there’s Adrianna and Ricardo, who have been together for two years.

Hot & Heavy for TLC

However, It didn’t take long for Twitter to drag TLC, saying the network is more or less calling the women unattractive by titling the show “Hot & Heavy.”  “Since TLC’s production team somehow missed this, it is INCREDIBLY disrespectful to first, characterize someone based solely on their size and second, portray concepts of “hot” and “heavy” as polar opposites – implying that hot and heavy may not … characterize one person simultaneously,” one user wrote.

This made my skin crawl this mad ugly I have so much to say but all I can say at the moment is fucking gross… the fetishizion and obsession with plus size women finding love is sick let only the title “ hot n heavy “ fucking sick I’m sick https://t.co/iv42p0p0XW

1. ‘Hot & Heavy’ implies that it’s an anomaly, that it is unheard of, to be both hot and…heavy (whatever that’s supposed to mean).
2. “Mixed-weight” couples???

This reeks of fatphobia. https://t.co/3vZjYobMjl

The three one-hour episodes of “Hot & Heavy” will premiere on Tuesday, January 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
