The bodies of two boys, a toddler, and an infant, were found inside a Bronx homeless shelter after police responded to a call for a domestic disturbance.
The New York Post identified the victims as Deshawn Fleming, 3, and Octavius, Canada, 11 months. Police discovered their bodies in a bathtub with “multiple stab wounds” to the neck and torso by their father Saturday night.
Police sources told the outlet that police and EMS responded to a 911 at the shelter on 246 Echo Place in Mount Hope around 7:21 p.m. It’s believed they responded to an alert from a carbon monoxide alarm.
Responding officers found the kids’ mother, Dimone Fleming, lighting things on fire and acting irrationally. She was taken into custody without any further incident and transported to a local hospital.
Before Fleming was brought to the hospital, a family friend told the police officers that the two boys were with their father.
“There wasn’t anything obvious to suggest there were dead kids in there,” the source said. “There was no blood.”
The father, who was on another floor of the building, returned to the apartment and discovered the boys about a half hour later. A neighbor overheard the man’s cries for help and called 911. Officers returned to the location and found the boys with multiple stab wounds. They were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Fleming is considered a person of interest in the boys’ murders. As of Sunday morning, no official charges have been filed against her.
