Hip hop media had a lot to talk about in early May 2013. Hot 97 DJ Mister Cee was arrested on a Saturday in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn on a charge of soliciting a prostitute, according to SPIN and other outlets. SPIN described it as his third solicitation arrest.
Speaking on Hot 97, Mister Cee said the person he solicited was a woman, not a man as earlier reports suggested. He described having an addiction to prostitution and said he is seeking help. Asked whether he is gay, he said he is not, and he acknowledged that the rumor has followed him for years. He also said his 2011 arrest was a set up and that he accepted the charges to spare his family and the station embarrassment, per SPIN.
The conversation did not stop there. Charlamagne Tha God and The Breakfast Club at Power 105 named him Donkey of the Day after the interview.
Author Toni Newman, who wrote the book I Rise: The Transformation of Toni Newman, also drew attention in hip hop media around the same time for interviews about her past as a sex worker. She made claims about encounters with well known men. Those claims are unconfirmed, and Baller Alert did not see any response from the people she mentioned, so we are not repeating them here.
