A transgender Rikers inmate has been sentenced to seven years in prison for raping a fellow female prisoner.
Ramel Blount, who goes by Diamond Blount, was born a male. However, since identifying as a woman, Blount was housed in the female unit of the notorious jail, which has been plagued by violence in recent months. Authorities say that on February 8th, 2021, Blount approached a 33-year-old cis-gendered female inmate in the bathroom as she was exiting the shower. Blount attacked the woman, holding her down by the back of her neck and raping her. The victim notified jail staff, and a rape kit was performed, which confirmed the assault occurred.
On April 7th, Blount accepted a plea deal that sentenced them to a seven-year prison sentence and eight years of post-release supervision. Blount must also register as a sex offender. A protective order was also issued for the victim.
This incident arrives as the question of transgender women being housed in all-female jails remains a controversial topic. Weeks ago, news broke of a transgender woman in New Jersey impregnating two cis-gendered female inmates in a woman’s prison.
It is unclear what crimes originally led Blount to Rikers.
This is exactly why I can’t get fully behind THIS movement.. it’s like he flat out lied..how can you switch hit like that..
Now changing schools to accommodate THIS movement..if a grown man “gets confused” about what he really wants, a child’s mind can definitely change, RIGHT..
I don’t have feelings one way or the other about someone’s sexual orientation, but kid’s need to left alone..once they’re 18 then make a determination.. Schools need to continue as it has ALWAYS been, based on what your actual birth certificate says…
